Bald Men Are Sexier, More Masculine, Scientific Study Finds
According to the American Hair Loss Association by the age of fifty approximately, 85% of men have significantly thinning hair. While men hate it when they notice hair loss, women don’t really have a problem with that. The Rock, Vin Diesel, Jason Statham are just some of many bald-headed sex symbols that women absolutely adore. It’s not just about celebrity status, though! The science confirmed that women do find bald men more handsome and masculine. Want to find out more? Keep reading the article below!
What did Study Find?
The research was conducted by Albert E. Mannes at the University of Pennsylvania, who’s a balding man himself. He carried out three experiments to analyze the link between shorn scalps and perceptions of male dominance.
The first experiment included 59 female students who viewed photographs of 25 male students. Each male participant was photographed on an identical background from the chest up wearing a dark suit and a tie. Ten men were bald while 15 had different hairstyles. Results of this experiment showed that men with shaved heads are perceived as dominant thus debunking the previous studies which likened baldness with diminished standing.
The second experiment featured 344 participants who were asked to rate eight photographs of men on several traits. The photos were of four men; each man was photographed twice once with hair and once without. Mannes discovered that men who had their hair digitally removed in photos were perceived as more dominant compared to their photos with hair. Interestingly, men were viewed an inch taller and 13% stronger when pictured with shaved heads versus with hair. Due to the fact their altered hair is the only difference between two photos of each participant, other factors can’t account for these results.
The final, third study, included 552 participants who were presented with the verbal description of a man and asked to type the description verbatim. All participants had the same description except for the information about the man’s hair. Findings revealed that people perceived John, character from the description, more dominant when described with a shaved head than with thick or thinning hair.
Why Bald Men are Perceived Sexier?
The research was published in the Social Psychological and Personality Science and states that bald men are perceived sexier, more masculine, stronger, dominant, and considered to have a greater leadership potential compared to men with hair. Mannes explains that he was surprised by the results but adds it could be the boldness of the head-shaving act that feeds the perception and about bald men. For instance, the experiments showed that men with thinning hair were rated less dominant than men who took the initiative to shave their heads altogether.
Shaved look is more attractive than visibly balding hair. That’s why the lead author of the study suggests men suffering natural hair loss may improve dominance and attractiveness just by shaving their heads. The importance of this study goes beyond sexiness or strength; it encourages balding guys to feel better about them and stop feeling subconscious. This is particularly important for men who’re considering spending a fortune on regrowth serums, hair transplants, and other treatments and products that promise miraculous results but rarely live up to one’s expectations.

Conclusion
Men usually feel subconscious about hair loss, their confidence takes a major hit as soon as they notice hair thinning or bald spots. However, being bald isn’t the worst thing in the world. In fact, it comes with multiple benefits as highlighted by this study. The research showed that bald men are perceived as better leaders, more dominant, stronger, sexier, and masculine than their counterparts.
